More than 70 high school students, from one of the most vulnerable neighborhoods in Santiago, applied to take part in an intercultural learning opportunity financed 100% by the mayor and City Council of the municipality of La Pintana and organized by EIL Chile.
48 students from La Pintana were selected as winners of a grant that will take them to: Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador and Brazil. Each of these destinations is hosted by a fellow Federation EIL member organization, reinforcing the EIL network in Latin American countries.
The recipients of this unique opportunity were selected by a review panel of 4 individuals: two representatives from EIL Chile, one from City Hall and another, a teacher from La Pintana.
“The goal of the program is to reinforce both the students and their families’ efforts and beliefs that education is a powerful tool for their future and for social change,” says Sylvia (Pochy) Villarroel, National Director, EIL Chile. This is the second year that EIL Chile has been selected to serve the youth from La Pintana.
“This program offers an opportunity for members of the Federation network to provide intercultural experiences for students at risk,” says EIL Chile Director, about the network of EIL members who work together on behalf of this program.
Federation EIL congratulates these new Experimenters as they prepare for their upcoming departure this October!
