At the General Assembly in April, a new Executive Board was elected. We are pleased to introduce:
President- Farah Cherif D’Ouezzan, a Moroccan national, is the President of Thaqafat Association- EIL Morocco and founder of the Center for Cross Cultural Learning. Farah started her career as an Arabic teacher to non native speakers in 1989 at the School for International Training (SIT) and Marlboro College, in Vermont, USA and in various French and Moroccan schools in Morocco. Her academic background is in comparative religion with a focus on Women and Islam. She has lectured widely in Morocco and elsewhere on the topic and continues to teach SIT study abroad students in Morocco. Farah is deeply involved with the Council of Europe Directorate of Youth and other COE affairs.
Vice President- Joshua Tripp. Joshua is the Executive Director of LAMAT Mexico. He studied International relations at Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) in Mexico City. He has a specialty in Mexican History and Archeology, He speaks six languages and has been working in International education for fourteen years. He’s also been an international consultant for Mexico’s main airline and has worked for an international non profit with a focus on micro finance. Most important of all, he comes from a long line of Experimenter families and has been an Experimenter himself.
Vice President Yoshihiro (Hiro) Suzuki- is the Executive Director of the Japanese Association of the Experiment in International Living based in Tokyo. Hiro started his career as a high school exchange student from Fukushima to Wichita, Kansas, USA. Since that time, he has been involved in many years high school cultural exchange through the Program for International Education Exchange (PIEE), which later merged with EIL Japan. After the merger in 2009, Hiro became the National Executive Director – a post he still holds today. He also represents EIL Japan on several important boards including: Okinawa Prefecture Board of Education, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Board of Education Committee for English education, and the Kumamoto Prefecture Board of Education Committee for Super Global High School exchanges. Mr. Suzuki also is the first official international educational advisor to the State of Montana, Japan Office. He has been the acclaimed keynote speaker at numerous important educational conferences – nationally and internationally.
In other transition news, our longtime Director, Ilene Todd, plans to retire in late June. Her wisdom, guidance and dedication will certainly be missed and we wish her all the very best for her future. We are pleased to introduce our new Director of the International Office, located in Brattleboro,Vermont~ Polli-Jo Moryl. Polli-Jo Moryl is a Master’s level economic developer, fundraiser, community activist, world traveler and entrepreneur. She will dedicate her skills to supporting the important mission of Federation EIL to promote peace through intercultural exposure and understanding. Polli is also the proud mother of two growing children. She loves travelling with her family and delving deeply into new cultures. She has had various hair raising adventures and believes that seeing the world first hand and meeting its people quickly creates compassion for each other.
We look forward to the new Executive Board and the new Director working together for a healthy, vibrant and productive future for the Federation EIL and its Membership.
