The homestay program is designed for those 18 years old and over who wish to travel to Mexico alone or in groups of 5 people maximum. The program can accommodate specific interests such as learning or practicing Spanish, taking arts or handicrafts workshops or just having a total cultural immersion experience with a flexible itinerary.
Homestay participants choose their length of stay, the dates they wants to travel, the topics they wish to explore while in Mexico, the number of cities to visit, and if they want to include a community service component. Multiple homestays may also be arranged on request.
LAMAT has a great infrastructure and an experienced team for cultural and educational programs all over Mexico. These programs are available for groups of people (10 participants or more), 15 years old and over, who wish to learn about Mexican culture, live with a family, participate in a community service project, practice or learn Spanish, cook Mexican food, learn about sustainable development and fair trade, discover life and customs of indigenous communities, explore arts and handicrafts, study ancient civilizations like the Maya (while you realize that its language is still alive and in use) or just get fully immersed in our culture.
Some of the programs we have in Mexico are:
- Mayan Arts & Adventure
- Marine Biology
- Cooking & Culture
- Sustainable Development and Fair Trade
- Ecology and Nature, how to reduce your ecological footprint (organic farming, eco-camps, etc.)
- Community Service
Because learning a second language implies moving yourself in the complex world of new cultures, our programs include a practical combination of academic and cultural activities in order to develop language skills and cultural knowledge.
Language programs are tailored to your needs, so you can choose if you want to stay with a host family or at an international residence, the number of hours/lessons per day and the city where you want to study. Language courses are available in Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Cuernavaca, Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen or Puebla.

At LAMAT we believe in the importance of volunteer work, not only because of the impact that it has within the community, but also because of its role in the creation of a new consciousness of universal solidarity, especially in young people. We also trust in the relevance that the values of voluntary work have in the creation of a better society — commitment, willfulness, solidarity, organization and action.
LAMAT offers a set of volunteer opportunities for individuals to do community service in Mexico. These opportunities are mainly in the areas of social service, environment and education; however, the possibilities are endless.
The different programs for volunteer work offered by LAMAT seek to have the greatest possible impact not only in the community involved, but also and mainly upon the person who carries out this work. Because of this, it is of LAMAT’s interest to include an enormous range of possibilities that offer the opportunity to share all types of knowledge to all types of profiles.
At LAMAT we understand that not all countries, organizations or institutions with which we work have the same interests or needs. For this reason, LAMAT offers the option of creating a program based on special requests. For these programs we will prepare a special proposal based on the main needs and interests put forth by the party (country, organization, school or university) involved. Among the data we need is the approximate number of participants, age, duration and specific interests. The more information we have, the more accurate our proposal can be.
It is noteworthy that the fact that being a proposal for a special program does not mean that the cost will be higher because LAMAT considers these programs as new ideas, which are always welcome in our organization.
If you are interested in receiving a program proposal from LAMAT or if you have any questions, feel free to contact us, we will gladly assist you and guide you.
